European Education presents the latest issues and studies in the field of education in and across the member states of the Council of Europe. The journal consists of seminal articles on education policy, theory and practice which define the central problems and advance the most important debates in European education today. Each issue explores in depth a particular theme, with special attention given to innovative and interdisciplinary approaches. Issue themes span across, but are not limited to, the following core subject areas:

  • Issues of educational policy, administration, finance, technology

  • Higher education in transition

  • Reform and restructuring in postcommunist systems

  • Adult education, school-to-work transitions, special education

  • Country, comparative and transnational studies

  • Education and society (immigration, multiculturalism, religion, globalization, privatization, etc.)

  • Teacher education and training

  • Pedagogical theory and innovation

  • European integration and education policy

  • Evaluation and assessment

"In an era in which educational ideas and policies are so readily imported and uncritically applied, it is important to have such a forum as European Education where they can be traced and scrutinized with broad perspective and intellectual rigor."

—Gita Steiner-Khamsi, Columbia University
